riginally from outside of Scranton, Pennsylvania, he received his undergraduate degrees from the distinguished Honors College at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating with two majors and two minors focusing on Chemistry, Physics, and Philosophy of Science. He then obtained a Master of Arts degree in Biology from Loyola University Chicago, and returned home to Scranton to attend Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. After obtaining his medical doctorate, he completed a seven-year residency in general surgery at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital—one of the largest hospitals in the country. Known for an expansive breadth of surgical disease, Dr. Karcutskie’s time at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital exposed him to all facets of surgery, including extensive training in one of the busiest trauma and burn centers in the world. During this time, he spent two dedicated years conducting clinical research in the Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Burns and became nationally known for his work on hypercoagulability and prevention of thromboembolism. In those two short, but prolific, years, he amassed over 60 presentations at regional and national meetings, as well as around 30 peer reviewed publications in some of the field’s highest impact journals. His research has brought much understanding into the development of thromboembolism after trauma and has even influenced hospital protocols for preventative measures.

Furthermore, Dr. Karcutskie was also involved as a surgical instructor for the United States Army Trauma Training Center in Miami, FL, where he was responsible for assisting Army medical teams with development of strategies for handling mass casualty situations in combat. He was involved in training every medical Army team that was deployed over that two-year period.

In addition to this work, he was a first responder physician at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, working with several world-renowned athletes. He still maintains a relationship with the Olympic medical team and has plans to be involved in future games.

His success during these 7 years helped earn him a coveted fellowship position with the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, ranked the top institution in Plastic Surgery by Doximity. In Pittsburgh, he participated in a large volume of both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery cases.

Working with leaders in the fields of both general and plastic surgery, Dr. Karcutskie has gained a unique training experience that is built for success. His practice has grown to include both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, with a large focus on facial aesthetic surgery, body contouring after weight loss, and breast and lymphatic reconstruction. He is one of the few providers in Connecticut to offer the highly technical Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator (DIEP) flap microsurgical breast reconstruction, as well as preventative microsurgical lymphatic reconstruction.

Dr. Karcutskie is currently board certified by the American Board of Surgery, and board eligible by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
He is married to his wife Shireen, a corporate immigration attorney, and they have two sons, Charlie and Jude, and one daughter, Eliana.
