Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)

Both the upper and lower eyelids are amongst the thinnest skin of the human body. They serve as a barrier between the outside world and the deeper tissues around the eye, such as fat, a membranous layer called the septum, and muscle. With time, there can be stretching of all of these tissues, typically resulting in a “hooded” appearance of the upper eyelid and a “puffy” appearance of the lower eyelid. There are numerous techniques available to correct these problems which Dr. Pathy and Dr. Shah will discuss with you and tailor to your needs.

While a lower blepharoplasty is generally considered an aesthetic procedure, an upper blepharoplasty can sometimes be covered by insurance. A consultation with an ophthalmologist or optometrist can be undertaken to test for visual field disturbances. If your upper eyelid skin excess results in difficulty in seeing the normal full field of vision, you may be eligible for insurance coverage.
