Tomer Avraham, MD, FACS
He believes in patient-centered care, taking the time to understand each person’s goals so that he can personalize their treatment experience and optimize their results.
Dr. Avraham received his B.S. in Biology from Tufts University, graduating with honors. He was then accepted into a competitive early-admission program to the Tufts University School of Medicine, where he completed his M.D., once again graduating with honors as a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. After finishing medical school, he completed his Plastic Surgery residency at the NYU Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, now known as the Hansjorg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery, and widely regarded as one of the premier plastic surgical training programs in the United States. Following his residency, Dr. Avraham stayed at NYU to complete a microsurgical fellowship, where he honed his skills in natural tissue reconstruction, especially DIEP flaps.
During his clinical training, Dr. Avraham also pursued a research fellowship at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, in the lab of Dr. Babak Mehrara, going on to serve as Chief Research Fellow for the Department of Surgery. During his time in the lab, he authored many peer-reviewed publications, was awarded a grant from the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation, and contributed to several other major grants. His research was recognized as the resident paper of the year by the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgery. At his fellowship graduation, he was awarded the Research Fellow of the Year Award in recognition of his achievements.
After completing his training, Dr. Avraham joined the Plastic Surgery faculty at the Mount Sinai Health System. In 2017 he joined the Yale School of Medicine, where he served as Director of Breast Reconstruction and Director of the Breast Microsurgical Reconstruction Fellowship. These posts allowed him the privilege of teaching numerous residents and fellows, and he was awarded the Dr. Deepak Narayan Teacher of the Year Award by his trainees in 2019.
He brings his distinguished track record, passion, and skills in plastic and reconstructive surgery to our Connecticut location. He strives to provide patients with the highest caliber of care in a compassionate and professional environment.
